Rufus first opera, Prima Donna, is now ready but was not performed, because he refused to change the libretto from French to English. This opera was commissioned by the Metropolitan Opera in New York but it will be now performed at the Manchester International Festival. He said: "When I started writing the opera it was in French and it takes place in Paris". After all, we can ask, Who is the Prima Donna?

American-born, Canadian-bred Rufus Wainwright, was described by Elton John as “the greatest songwriter on the planet”.
Son of singers and musicians, Rufus lived most of the childhood with his mother in Montreal, Canada.
Rufus has the ability to blend dreams and deep feelings, in a way that few contemporary artists can do. The poems express Rufus homosexuality, both directly and poetically. The music is deep and graceful. But most of all his voice is like a caress, with the power to mild your heart!
He has released six albums and two DVDs so far. Currently is composing a musical adaptation of Shakespearean Sonnets and writing an opera called “Prima Donna”.
